Count-In/Out mute quantize

Hi all

I'm trying to set up a live looping rig and having quite a degree of success using Loopy HD. One feature I find very useful is the Count-In Quantize options for recording. For example, I can set this to 1 bar and this works fine regardless of clock length.

I can't find an equivalent option for mute or solo a track. Is there one or can I achieve the same result using different options/technique.

To be clear what I'm trying to do is as follows:

I have loop 1 recorded which is only 2 bars long. I have loop 2 recorded which is 16 bars long (or longer).

Essentially loop 1 is an intro loop that can run for as long as I want it to until everything is ready to go with the full song. Loop 2 is beginning of song real.

Once ready, I want to be able to mute loop 1 and switch to loop 2 within 1 or 2 bars. Currently if I turn off Count In/Out Mute quantize, then loop 2 is switched on immediately. This is fine but my timing is not that great to get it spot on. If I turn on Count In/Count Out Mute Quantize, the number of bars I wait for loop 2 to kick in depends on the length of loop 2 and where it is in the cycle when I switch it on. For a 16 bar loop this could be up to 16 bars.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated - particularly if I'm missing something obvious :).

Cheers Nick

Start Record - Stop Record - Playback Loop ?

I'm a brand new Loopy user. I've been using a Boomerang for live looping with guitar. On the Boomerang, I hit record and when I tap it again it stops recording or I can make it loop immediately. I'm trying to use the iRig BlueBoard with Loopy and can find no Loopy midi commands that allow me to use the foot controller to just stop the recording, then begin playback at a later time. I'm trying to lay down a rhythm guitar track while singing. Stop the recording, then play it back to support my lead guitar later in the song. Am I missing something here? Is that function available under some other command? I just want to be able to record - stop - playback with loop later in the song. Thanks for the help.

Planning my (first) Loopy HD hardware kit (by Iofan)

Hello Loopy community!

I'm new to this forum. Just found it two days ago, when I was researching on information about the boss rc 300. After a few posts in here (and the fact that I already own an Ipad Air) I was convinced to go for the Loopy HD option of my newly found looping life. =)

I read through a lot of threads already, but since I am very new to the theme and some threads are quite outdated, I'm up for my big question:

Which hardware kit do you recommend for me as a new Loopy HD user considered the following requirements?

  • I want to use the equipment for sondwriting AND live performance
  • I want to have maximum freedom in arranging the foot pedal.
  • The more tracks I can possibly manage with my foot pedal, the better.
  • I want to try to create different parts for verse and chorus (and bridge too!) ;)
  • In the beginnig I will mainly use my looping device in my band for my guitar and voice (I've got a human drummer and bass player ;)). Since I am the songwriter, I'd also like to play our songs on my own (alternative rock songs).
  • I'm a fan of long lasting, good quality equipment. But at the moment I haven't got tons of Euros to spend (say € 400 max). I really want to get started! =D

Have I forgotten any important requirements?

I would be very thankful for advice. =)

Greetings from Austria, Iofan

Ps.: I think it would be a great idea to creaty a sticky thread in the "equipment" section, with the most recommended hardware pieces to use together with Loopy HD for professional reasons, as well as set advices like: audio interface x plus foot pedal y = the "plug and play kit", another kit could be focussed on maxmium options, etc. etc. Just in short with the most important adavantages and disadvantages. I'd do it. If I had a clue. xD

Gamepad iPega bluetooth (diy foot controller)

Well, I have tested several types of foot controllers bluetooth from blueboard up versions created from a QWERTY keyboard.

While blueboard has few command keys, diy foots with the QWERTY keyboard are fragile and somewhat durable.

I'm researching the gamepads with bluetooth. The ipega pg9017 seems to be compatible with iOS in text mode and has 13 keys.

I've seen some projects converting a gamepad (wired) in foot controller adding contact keys.

I think for loopy can get interesting.

Does anyone have one of these to tell if it works?

IK Multimedia Blueboard & Loopy HD

Just to "chime" in here as an avid Boss RC50 and TCHelicon VLOOP user.. Have you seen what's just come out of Namm 2013?

IK Multimedia have released iRig HD which is 100% digital lightning to jack connector.. AND (this one I am excited about) a wireless Bluetooth foot pedal called iRig blueboard which is 4 assignable midi pedals. Will be retailing at around $99..

These two products are a real game changer for me to make the final leap over from the RC50 to Loopy HD.

I really really hope that the Blueboard works with Loopy HD.. There's no reason to suggest it won't.. And as its wireless and run on 4 AAA batteries.. All you need is an iphone5/iPad with lightning connector with Loopy HD and the Blueboard as your core setup!

Awesome! I will be keeping a sharp eye on these products and will report back later once they are out to give info on their happiness with LoopyHD.

Loopy crash

My loopy crashes when I'm in record without count in mode and tap to re record just before the end of the loop. Is anybody else experiencing this? I wonder if it has anything to do with recent app updates to IOS8? I'm on iPad Air ios 7.1.2. This is the audiobus preset I'm using. I know this is quite complex preset but I've never had issues with this. @Michael could it have something to do with sugar bytes apps? Those are the only ones I've updated recently. I actually also updated loopy and audiobus because of this issue but later downgraded using backup IPAs but the problem persisted.

Will it be possible to save loopy as a preset anytime soon? Id like to call up entire layouts with some prerecorded loops, effects etc. As of now you can't do that. It sure would be nice

How to send complex midi messages to loopy using simple midi footswitch - Solved

$

Hi All

I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd share what I've been up to with Loopy HD and other iPad apps.

As a guitarist, I've been using an iPad on stage for several years now but solely for displaying chord charts, lyrics and managing setlists, etc. To do this I've been using an excellent ios app called OnSong.

I recently started a project to see if I could replace all of my various guitar and vocal outboard gear with a single iPad. One of the first apps I began to play with in this quest was Loopy HD. After getting excited about Loopy, like a lot of people I then started to search for a coherent way to control the app via my feet whilst playing guitar. The available midi bindings in Loopy are excellent and extensive but what if a) you only have one or two midi footswitches at your disposal and b) you need to do different things with Loopy for different songs.

Enter OnSong and its midi integration feature (add-on).

Essentially, one of the main feature of OnSong is the ability to create/download/keep/organise/edit chord sheets and lyrics on your iPad. In this respect, OnSong has a great editor/word processor to allow you to edit songs and add information, chords, notes, etc. One very cool feature is the ability to define song sections such as Verse, Chorus, Bridge, etc. Even more cool, you can advance through song sections using a simple footswitch. Even way more cool, you can configure and send out multiple midi controller, program change, etc. messages from OnSong as each song section is reached. This means you can automate other apps from OnSong. For example, I use Jamup Pro for guitar processing. I can configure OnSong to automatically select the correct preset in Jamup when a song is loaded and then to change presets on the fly as I progress through the song. All I have to do is hit one footswitch to go to next song section.

This also works with Loopy HD! I can configure my song sections in OnSong to send out multiple midi messages to Loopy HD. This means I can effectively use all of the various midi bindings in Loopy exactly as needed for each song. Because I can send out multiple midi messages you can program OnSong to do pretty complex things in Loopy and obviously these actions can be different for each song and different for each song section.

I'm not affiliated with OnSong in anyway but just love the combination of OnSong and Loopy HD and the potential of using these and other apps to transform the kind of music I might be able to play and control in a live setting using a very simple midi footswitch.

All the best.

What are the In-App purchases?

I am interested in purhcasing the app, but I notice in the App Store that there's a plus sign next to the price for Loopy HD, meaning that in-app purchases are involved. However, there's no mention of any in-app purchases anywhere in the description, and I am concerned that more money will be required in order to get the app fully functional. Do all of the features in the description come with the initial price? What are are the in-app purchases? Is there a list of the in-app purchases anywhere? And will I be frustrated with the app if I do not purchase them?

Some App Store vendors do rip customers off with in-app purchases, so my concern is genuine and based on personal experience. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

I'm using Loopy on an iPad Air, iOS 8.1. I was just using the app - 12 loops and recording my performance. It just crashed! I have a gig on Dec. 1st and I'd like to get things set up so this doesn't happen on stage! The app ran like a Swiss watch in the past! thanks!

LoopyHD Export to Soundcloud only in MONO? Please Advise!

$

Hey All.

I am a vocalist. Export of LoopyHD Recordings to Soundcloud worked brilliantly (and in stereo) in the past when I was simply using headphones and integrated mic to record loops etc. But with my new hardware set-up (to get vocal processing also), it only seems to output in MONO, even though I have added a merging adapter to try to rectify the issue.

Current set-up sequence / hardware chain is:

Sennheiser Vocal mic --> TC-Helicon Voicelive Play --> RL merge adapter output --> Focusrite iTrack Solo --> Loopy HD on iPad 3 --> back to iTrack --> behringer mixer --> PA

A bit complicated I know... (maybe would be good to learn how to use Audiobus?)

Regardless, when I export tracks using this set-up into Soundcloud, they somehow only output in MONO - on the left speaker.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thank you for your insights!

Christopher

Hey folks! Last year I had the opportunity to join synth pioneer Thomas Dolby on his North American tour, and used Loopy to perform his signature song, "She Blinded Me With Science!" The video of that is finally up so I thought I'd share it here :) Performance starts at 1:21.

Weird problems when trying to sync to an external MIDI clock

$
0
0

I have personally written a message to respected developer Michael. Supposing that he may not respond to all messages from all around the world, I would like to put the issue on the table too. I am open to any working ideas...

I own an iPad 4th generation. iOs 7.0.3, a Roland Duo Capture Ex audio/midi interface, Icon G-Board USB foot controller, a powered USB Hub to be able to make Icon work and LOOPY HD! When I turn on all the staff, rig is ready. I connected Roland's MIDI IN to my desktop computer's sound card's MIDI OUT to get the clock from Ableton Live. When I play Ableton session, Loopy HD is on the go. Controlling loops with my Icon is no prob. However, I get some issues during real time play and record:

  1. Although I set count in to 1 bar and press record switch within the LAST bar (familiar process as in Ableton's quantized recording system), Loopy does not always start recording on upcoming 1st beat as it is expected. So it counts one more bar and starts recording. This is real problem when you are not just freely looping and have a traffic to follow on back ground :( I also tried count-in as clock time by setting it to 1 on loopy. No consistency. I am still working on it before putting it on stage.

  2. The 1 bar counting problem also occurs when I try to end the recording. (I expect it to be just as in Ableton Live's quantized loop recording. Namely, I press the toggle record switch DURING the LAST bar of my recording, but Loopy may not be able to end recording and play back, instead it continues to record and ads one more bar to my loop where everything goes out of order as you may guess.

  3. Last problem is: Although everything goes quantized, Loopy sometimes eats the beginning of the recorded loop just after it quits recording and passes onto play back. Is it a common failure, I do not know. but I encountered it many times.

What may be the reason of all these problems? Is it a MIDI clock issue? Is Loopy HD not ready yet to get massive stabile timing with external master clock?

P.S. I also checked it WITHOUT receiving MIDI clock from external hardware (Ableton). Neither of the problems above occur. :( That is bad news because my first aim by purchasing iPad installed with Loopy HD was to use it on stage synchronized (as a Slave) with other hardware such as Ableton running computer or another clock sending synth. I think the developer of this wonderful program should work around this issue more.

Best Regards

Is the iPad air's 1gb ram enough to run 7-8 apps?

A 2 year old product. Screaming for an update. Millions of users waiting and finally apple performs a no show. The iPod 5th gen. A 3 year old processor, and 512mb RAM.

I'm forced to update as i'm running 5 programs at the same time, and opening a guitar tuner often results in a program shutting down. I'm on the edge of it's capabilities without even including my midi keyboard into the setup.

The second let down is the iPad mini retina 2. Its exactly the same as last years but with a fingerprint reader. Jey..

For me, the smaller the better, but i did see that the iPad air 2 carry's 2gb of RAM.

Right now i'm using: Tonestack, Audiobus, Loopy, Midibridge and MIDI Designer, but want to include Sampletank, iGrand piano and Sunrizer. Is there anyone out there using a similar setup as this on an iPad air or iPad min retina without any disturbance or hiccup?

The improved bass response ( when recording via the 3.5mm input ) that was achieved on the last Loopy update seems to have disappeared with my installation of IOS8. Can you confirm that this is true? is there anything that I can do to fix it?

is there a IOS8 Loopy Update coming?
